Hands-On Programs

Among the many 21st Century degrees Pierpont offers is our Mechatronics program.  What is Mechatronics?  It is the study of mechanics, electronics, and system control technologies with the goal of developing the knowledge and skills required to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electro-mechanical systems in an industrial environment. Students in the Mechatronics program will take more than a dozen hands-on technical courses, including electricity and electronics, mechanics, hydraulics and pneumatics, instrumentation, and programmable logic controllers.

Mechatronics graduates can find work anywhere there is machinery that needs to be installed, maintained, or repaired. Locally, this might include companies such as: Swanson Industries, WVU Hospitals, Inc., Mon Power / First Energy, Novelis, Corhart Refractories Company, Armstrong Wood Products, Inc., Weyerhaeuser, Mylan Pharmaceuticals, and Chemtura Corporation. Career wages for a troubleshooting technician with mechatronics knowledge are above the local average wage.
